GLOSSARY

Automatic Urethane Punch Stripper
A unique type of punch stripper which utilizes urethane to strip the material from the punch after the hole has been made. Provides less distortion than a fixed punch stripper.

Automatic Urethane Hold Down
A unique type of material hold down which uses urethane rubber to clamp the material being sheared (round, square or flat bar or angle iron) to the shear table. Increases productivity over manual type of hold downs as the material is clamped automatically without operator adjustment.

Blade Clearance
The distance between the upper and lower shear knives.

Dovetail Slide
A unique feature which allows for quick changes between tooling set ups such as punching and bending.

Dual Operator Ironworker
An ironworker designed for use by one or two operators at a time. One operator may be punching while the other is shearing.

Fabrication Equipment
Equipment such as press brakes, shears and ironworkers used in the fabrication of metal components or products.

Floating Upper Angle Iron Shear Knife
A unique style of angle iron shear knife where the upper knife actually floats or rotates to center itself in the gullet of an angle iron section. This feature provides the benefits of minimal distortion and slug free shearing. In other words, no material is lost during the shearing operation. Some ironworker angle iron shears actually remove a "slug" from the material being sheared. This slug is waste (scrap) and thus increases operating costs.

Guillotine Style Shear
A type of shear in which the upper shear knife moves parallel to the lower shear knife providing increased rigidity over other shear designs.

Hydraulic Ironworker
A multi-station metal fabricating machine which utilizes hydraulic power for its operation. Typical operations are punching, shearing, bending, notching and forming. The hydraulic power allows the machine to be stopped in mid-cycle which provides greater safety than mechanical ironworkers.

Hydraulic Shear
Two (2) cylinder, guillotine style plate shear with variable rake angle and variable blade clearance.

Hydro-Mechanical Press Brake
A single hydraulic cylinder powers a mechanical linkage system to bend, punch or form material. This unique design provides full tonnage at any point across the bed, assures parallel movement of the ram regardless of off-center loading and yields +/- .001" repeatability.

Hydro-Mechanical Shears
Single hydraulic cylinder design guillotine style plate shear which uses a mechanical linkage and fixed rake angle.

Mechanical Ironworker
A multi-station metal fabricating machine which uses mechanical energy (typically from a large flywheel) for power. These machines cannot be stopped in mid-cycle which may create safety concerns for the operator.

Mechanical Linkage on a Press Brake
A system which utilizes two (2) crankarms which are linked together mechanically. The entire linkage is powered by a single hydraulic cylinder and offers superior repeatability due to its mechanical design.

Rake Angle
The shearing angle made between the upper shear knife and lower shear knife of a guillotine style plate shear or ironworker flat bar shear.

Single End Punch Press (SEPP)
Utilizes a single hydraulic cylinder which is used for punching or to power a wide variety of punch press tooling and tooling designed for special applications.

Single Operator Ironworker
An ironworker designed for use by a single operator.

Swing Beam Style Shear
A type of shear where the upper shear knife rotates on a radius rather than parallel to the lower knife.
