How to Properly Adjust the Punch/Stripper Attachment: Piranha P-model Ironworkers

Note: Machine may have either adjustment caps if a newer machine or socket-head bolts if an older model.
1. Run the machine to full up and shut it off.
2. Remove the die from the die block to avoid damage to tooling.
3. The punch should extend just past the bottom of the lower stripper foot. Hold a flat surface to the stripper foot to determine the position of the punch.
4. On newer machines, loosen the set screws on the adjustment caps. On older machines, remove the chrome caps from the adjustment bolts.
5. Turn the machine on and run it down to where the stripper foot just touches the die block. This relieves the pressure on the caps or bolts and will allow them to turn freely.
6. Adjust the caps or bolts so that half of the centering tip of the punch protrudes below the die block. Run the machine up if necessary.
7. After adjusting the punch, run the machine down again, making sure that the stripper foot touches both sides of the die block at exactly the same time. Adjust if necessary.
8. Lock the set screws on newer machines or replace the chrome caps on older machines.

Pressure Gauge Installation and Check on Piranha P50 Ironworker

1. Inside the cabinet, locate the pressure gauge zip-tied to the hydraulic hose.
2. Remove the zip tie.
3. Remove the hydraulic hose cap with an 11/16 wrench.
4. Fit the pressure gauge to the hose, tightening with the 11/16 wrench.
5. Start the Ironworker.
6. Run the Ironworker to full top and check the pressure.
7. Run the Ironworker to full bottom and check the pressure.
8. Shut down the Ironworker.
9. Remove the pressure gauge and store it in a safe location.
10. Replace the hydraulic hose cap.

How to Adjust the Hold Down Assembly on the Piranha Ironworker

How to Adjust the Hold Down Assembly on the Piranha Ironworker
1. Make sure the hold-down adjustment lever is in the straight-up position.
a. Older machines have a pin rather than a lever. No adjustment is necessary.
2. Adjust the coupling nut so that it is flush with the top of the swing bolt.
3. Push the hold-down up against the coupling nut.
4. Start the machine and jog the arm down while watching the angle block as it moves down towards the table.
5. Ensure that the angle block touches both sides of the table at exactly the same time.
6. If not, adjust the nyloc nuts on the left and right sides of the hold-down adjustment lever to pull the angle block in the appropriate direction.
a. Older machines have removable chrome caps and socket head bolt. The adjustment procedure is the same.
7. Fine tune the placement of the urethane block by adjusting the coupling nut on the swing bolt.

Fasteners to NOT torque on your Piranha Ironworker

Banana Slot Bolt – Locknut should be snug with .005” clearance between the machine and the bolt head.

Hold-Down – Locknut should be loose enough to allow for the washer to move.

Angle-knife Through-bolt – Adjust the bolt so it is snug, but you can still move the angle-knife with a small amount of effort.

Angle-knife Bolts – Thread the bolts until they are in contact with the machine, then tighten them with an eighth of a wrench turn.
